BOOZING ON KETO

BOOZING ON KETO

CAN YOU HAVE ALCOHOL ON A KETO DIET?

Being on a Keto diet doesn’t mean quitting the booze.

Summer is nearly here, you’re imagining that cool sip of beer on a hot day, or perhaps a chilled glass of your favourite fizz, but hang on you’re on keto.. does that mean the only bubbles you can have is in your sparking water?!!  No not at all!!

Let’s set one thing straight though… having too many might slam the breaks on your ketosis…as your liver will be processing the booze your fat might have to wait…

Also some alcohol does mean you might have a touch of water retention or even the next day hangover cravings, but in moderation there is no need to avoid going out…stick to our guide and you’ll be all good..

STRAIGHT UP

If you’re a straight up person then great… spirits over ice can often mean zero carbs. Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, Tequila and Rum have the green light… but stay clear of the sweet liquor syrups.

IN THE MIX

Soda Water, lime, or lemon juice are all good to go… and if you’re into dirty Martinis apparently pickle juice…the jury’s out for us on that one..

VINO

Dry red or white by the glass usually has about 3g of carbs. but ask for a lightest and driest variety to be on the safe side.

SOME FIZZ

There is a big reason to drink Champagne or Prosecco, it has very little carbs.. and if that’s not a reason to celebrate we don’t know what is!

LOW CARB BEERS

To be honest we’re not sure you’ll find these in many places.. but if you do check the carb amount and you might be lucky enough to find a brand which is keto friendly.

What should you avoid….

Cocktails.. as they are often mixed with sweet liquors, syrups and fruit juices.

Beer… it’s basically liquid bread.

Cider…  well you might as well go straight for a toffee apple!

Sweet liquors – Bailey’s, Campari, Amaretto are all out.

As you see there are plenty of keto friendly choices and if you have to stick to Champagne well that’s just how the keto cookie crumbles!
